API praises Trump's signing of tax bill boosting energy development

President Trump is set to sign the 2025 tax reconciliation bill, a move that has been praised by the American Petroleum Institute (API). API President and CEO Mike Sommers described the bill as "the most important energy bill in a generation," highlighting its potential to boost American energy through increased investment opportunities and expanded lease sales both onshore and offshore.

The legislation mandates 30 offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and quarterly onshore lease sales. It also includes tax policies aimed at supporting oil and natural gas production, ensuring that American energy remains competitive globally.

Sommers said, "President Trump has delivered on his promise to unleash American energy by unlocking opportunities for investment, supporting global competitiveness and opening lease sales onshore and offshore from the Gulf of America to Alaska." He added that this legislation "cements American energy leadership for years to come."

API represents various segments of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, which supports nearly 11 million jobs nationwide. The organization is involved in API Energy Excellence, an initiative focused on advancing environmental and safety standards through new technologies and transparent reporting. Established in 1919, API has developed over 800 standards to improve operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
