Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California
Cedar Sky Montgomery, a 45-year-old resident of Calaveras County, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for making violent threats across state lines. The sentencing was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith and delivered by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd.
Court documents reveal that Montgomery used both his cellphone and the internet to issue threats to multiple individuals. In one instance, he threatened a victim with violence against their family, stating they would "watch members of your family hanging from trees while your famil[y’]s Houses Burn to ground … ." Another threat involved messages sent to a second victim and their brother, where Montgomery claimed he would "kill as many members of your family as I can find!" He also threatened physical harm by saying he would cut off the victim's fingers and hands.
Montgomery also targeted a third victim with threatening voicemails, which included statements such as "the bomb maker is going to kill everybody in your [expletive] family" and other violent intentions.
Between late November 2023 and early January 2024, Montgomery harassed a fourth victim through numerous unwanted calls and text messages. These communications included obscene content and threats towards the victim's romantic partner. He also sent images depicting violence alongside claims that he would find the victim and cause them harm.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation offices in Stockton, Los Angeles, and Washington, with support from the U.S. Secret Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian T. Kinsella led the prosecution.
