An El Salvadorian national has been sentenced for unlawful reentry into the United States after being deported three times. Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack announced that Juan Ruiz, 30, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time served, equivalent to two months, by U.S. District Judge Samantha D. Elliott. Ruiz is currently in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody awaiting deportation to El Salvador.
Ruiz had previously entered the United States illegally on three occasions and was deported on June 12, 2016, May 18, 2017, and October 14, 2021. On April 22, 2025, the Manchester Police Department responded to a domestic violence report at Ruiz's apartment and arrested him for simple assault. Upon discovering his immigration status, authorities referred him to ICE.
The investigation was led by ICE with assistance from the Manchester Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander S. Chen prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime through coordinated efforts with Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
