U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry have seized more than $517,000 worth of heroin concealed in a vehicle. The interception occurred during a routine inspection at the Camino Real International Bridge on July 9.
Port Director Pete Beattie commented on the operation, stating, “Our frontline CBP officers utilized their inspection skill, experience, technology and intercepted a sizable amount of heroin during a routine inspection.” He emphasized that such seizures highlight CBP's commitment to border security.
The heroin was found hidden within tortilla presses and candy dispensers inside a Dodge pickup truck attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico. The nonintrusive inspection equipment and canine team played key roles in discovering six packages weighing approximately 26.96 pounds (12.23 kg). The estimated street value of the narcotics is $517,072.
Following the discovery, CBP Office of Field Operations seized both the narcotics and the vehicle involved. Special agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested the driver and passenger while initiating a criminal investigation.
