Senate HELP Committee to hold hearing on empowering independent workers

On July 17, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee will conduct a hearing focused on empowering independent workers with access to portable workplace benefits such as health care and retirement. This initiative follows the recent unveiling of a legislative package by U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, Tim Scott, and Rand Paul. The package aims to modernize federal labor law to enhance independent workers' access to these benefits while providing consistency in defining an independent contractor.

The hearing titled "Freedom to Work: Unlocking Benefits for Independent Workers" is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM ET/9:00 AM CT. It will take place at the 430 Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Members of the press planning to attend in person are required to RSVP through their respective press gallery.
