A Donora, Pennsylvania resident has pleaded guilty to charges of drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. Tre Robert Goins, 31, admitted in federal court to possessing fentanyl and cocaine with the intent to distribute and unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The plea was announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Goins will face trial in August 2025 for an additional charge related to possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. His arrest followed a high-speed chase initiated by the City of Duquesne Police Department on May 24, 2024. After crashing his vehicle, law enforcement found fentanyl, cocaine, and a stolen loaded firearm inside.
Sentencing is set for October 22, 2025. Goins could face up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $1 million. The sentence will consider the seriousness of the offenses and Goins' criminal history.
The case is prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kelly M. Locher and Katherine C. Jordan. Goins remains in custody pending sentencing.
The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; City of Clairton Police Department; Duquesne Police Department; and Elizabeth Township Police Department.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aiming to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement at all levels and community organizations.
