U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Buffalo has arrested two Mexican nationals who were convicted of serious crimes in New York. The arrests took place on July 7, as part of ICE's ongoing efforts to identify and detain individuals violating U.S. immigration laws.
The first individual, Aurelio Lopes-Vasquez, aged 44, was convicted by the New York State Supreme Court for sexual conduct against a child and acting in a manner injurious to a child on May 16, 2024, in Brooklyn. The second individual, Jesus Flores, aged 49, was convicted of manslaughter in the Bronx on May 17, 2018. Flores had previously been removed from the United States three times—in 2009, 2012, and 2014.
Joseph Freden, Deputy Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), stated: “This sexual predator and murderer have not only shown a complete disdain for our nation’s immigration laws but also a wanton disregard for New York State Criminal laws." He added that ICE officers are committed to keeping criminal aliens out of communities.
Both Lopes-Vasquez and Flores entered the U.S. without inspection at unknown dates and locations. They are currently held in ICE custody awaiting immigration proceedings and potential removal from the country.
