Philadelphia man sentenced for robbing four banks in two weeks

United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Joseph Perkins, a 31-year-old resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to seven years in prison. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Karen S. Marston for the robbery of multiple banks within the city over a two-week period.

Perkins faced charges in October 2024 with four counts of bank robbery and pleaded guilty in March. According to court documents and his own admission, Perkins used threatening demand notes to obtain money from bank personnel.

The robberies took place on the following dates:

- August 26, 2024: Citizens Bank branch inside ACME Market at 2497 Aramingo Avenue

- August 29, 2024: Citizens Bank branch at 2101 Cottman Avenue

- September 4, 2024: TD Bank branch at 6304 Roosevelt Boulevard

- September 7, 2024: TD Bank branch at 2267 East Butler Street

Perkins successfully obtained cash during the first three robberies but left empty-handed after the fourth attempt.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kwambina Coker is prosecuting the case.
