U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported the arrest of 1,361 illegal aliens in the Houston area during June. These individuals are either charged with or have been convicted of criminal offenses after entering the United States illegally. The arrests included 32 individuals convicted of child sex offenses, nine for homicide-related crimes, 16 members of transnational gangs or drug cartels, and one individual previously convicted for hijacking an airplane from Cuba to Key West.

Gabriel Martinez, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Houston, stated: “Despite attempts by some to undermine our mission by spreading false and malicious rumors, the brave men and women of ICE continue to work tirelessly around the clock targeting dangerous criminal aliens to restore integrity to our nation’s immigration system and bolster public safety in our communities.” He emphasized that the removal of these dangerous individuals is part of efforts to make local communities safer.

Among those arrested were Adermis Wilson-Gonzalez from Cuba, Arnulfo Olivares Cervantes from Mexico, Luis Pablo Vasquez-Estolano also from Mexico, Jose Meza from Mexico, and Javier Escobar Gonzalez from Mexico. These individuals have been previously convicted of various serious crimes including hijacking an airplane, trafficking cocaine, attempted murder, sexual assault of a minor, among others.

The arrests are part of routine enforcement activities conducted by the ERO Houston field office in collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies throughout Southeast Texas. This initiative aims to enhance public safety as well as national and border security.
