United States Attorney David Metcalf announced the sentencing of Isiah Surzano-Glover, 22, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was sentenced to 168 months in prison and five years of supervised release by United States District Judge Karen S. Marston for his involvement in two armed carjackings.
In March 2024, Surzano-Glover was charged by indictment and later pleaded guilty in November to two counts of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
According to court filings and the defendant's admission, on January 2, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., Surzano-Glover and accomplices lured victim P.M. to the 5400 block of Walker Street in Philadelphia by posing as a female named “Mercedes” on a dating app. Upon arrival, P.M. was approached by masked individuals who brandished guns and threatened him. The carjackers took his keys, wallet, phone, and drove away in his 2011 Ford Crown Victoria.
The following day at approximately 8:30 p.m., using the same method with another victim R.E., they lured him to the 1700 block of Brill Street in Philadelphia. Upon arrival, R.E. was confronted by masked carjackers who pointed handguns at him and pistol-whipped him before taking his keys and phone. They ordered him to run before driving away in his 2006 Toyota Tacoma.
About half an hour after R.E.'s carjacking incident, Philadelphia police located R.E.’s Tacoma parked unattended at 5000 Valley Street. Officers also found P.M.’s Crown Victoria nearby under surveillance.
At around 10:15 p.m., P.M.’s vehicle drove off leading officers on a pursuit that ended when multiple individuals bailed from the vehicle at Worth Street and Margaret Street where Surzano-Glover was arrested after a foot chase.
Surzano-Glover also admitted involvement in four other carjackings in Philadelphia.
The case was investigated by the ATF and the Philadelphia Police Department with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Miller and Kwambina Coker.
