U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Jose Miguel Nunez Carmona, a 30-year-old citizen of the Dominican Republic, pleaded guilty to forging an alien resident card. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., and Nunez Carmona was sentenced to time served before being handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sasha Mascarenhas explained that on April 23, 2025, during an encounter with U.S. Border Patrol Agents, Nunez Carmona admitted to being in the United States illegally. He presented a United States Permanent Resident Card as proof of identity and lawful status in the country. However, upon examination by agents, the card was found fraudulent due to missing security features, blurry watermarks, low-quality background imaging, and improper fonts. A records check confirmed that Nunez Carmona had never been issued permanent residency in the United States and that the USCIS number on the card did not match any individual.
Nunez Carmona confessed to agents that his resident card was fake.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
The investigation leading to this plea and sentencing was conducted by U.S. Border Patrol under the direction of Patrol Agent in Charge Martin B. Coombs.
