Honduran national pleads guilty to distributing child pornography in Louisiana

Acting United States Attorney Ellison C. Travis announced that Olvin Rodriguez-Inestroza, a 22-year-old Honduran national in the United States without authorization, has pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography. The plea was entered before U.S. Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick.

Rodriguez-Inestroza admitted to using internet-based accounts and a social media mobile application for distributing child pornography. Authorities found at least 205 videos and approximately 325 images of child pornography on his smartphone, some involving toddlers.

The conviction carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison, along with a $250,000 fine and up to lifetime supervised release. Rodriguez-Inestroza will also face sex offender registration requirements and potential deportation after serving his sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Baton Rouge Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Edward H. Warner is prosecuting the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders and rescue victims.

Additionally, this case falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to eliminate illegal immigration-related crime through coordinated efforts from various Department of Justice initiatives.
