U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has announced the allocation of $488 million in awards through the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program. This funding will be distributed among 30 projects nationwide, aiming to enhance various infrastructure sectors such as roadways, transit, rail, maritime, and aviation.

"Under President Trump, America is building again," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. "From making families safer on our roads to expanding our ports, these grant selections reflect our commitment to unleashing America’s full potential with envy-of-the-world infrastructure."

The BUILD program aims to leave a lasting impact by developing communities across the nation. The $488 million in grants is part of a broader plan for significant infrastructure investments over the next four years.

Roads and bridges have received 77% of this funding to strengthen key economic routes. An example includes over $24 million allocated for widening a segment of US Route 54 in Missouri.

Transit upgrades account for 10% of the grants, focusing on safe and reliable commuter networks. For instance, $25 million is designated for constructing a new operations facility in Jefferson County, Alabama.

Waterway projects have been awarded more than $35 million primarily for port improvements. A notable project includes $25 million for enhancing the Bristol Port Facility in Pennsylvania.

Rail networks will receive nearly $3 million to support multimodal transportation enhancements. This includes $2 million for preliminary design upgrades in Snohomish County, Washington.

Additional allocations include nearly $25 million for core infrastructure upgrades at Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority and roughly $25 million towards expanding truck parking in West Virginia along major interstates.

The BUILD program's awards were determined from over 800 applications requesting more than $10 billion. Funding is evenly split between urban and rural areas, with each receiving $244 million in awards.
