On July 1, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had a conversation with India's Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh. The call highlighted the importance of India as a key defense partner for the United States in South Asia.

Senior Defense Spokesman Col. Chris Devine shared that both officials reviewed the progress made towards achieving defense goals set out in the February 2025 joint statement by President Trump and Prime Minister Modi. The discussion also covered pending major U.S. defense sales to India and emphasized the need for close defense industrial cooperation between the two nations.

Secretary Hegseth and Minister Singh agreed to sign the next ten-year U.S.-India Defense Framework during their next meeting this year.
