U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector have arrested two illegal aliens, both convicted sex offenders, near the U.S.-Mexico border this week. This action aims to prevent dangerous individuals from entering American communities.
Mateo Pablo-Martin, a 39-year-old Guatemalan national, was taken into custody by McAllen Station agents on July 14. Records show that Pablo-Martin was convicted by the Riverside Sheriff's Office in February 2018 for molesting a child under 18 years old. He received a sentence of 170 days in jail and 30 months' probation.
In another incident, Fort Brown Station agents apprehended David Antonio Varcenas-Aguilar, a 45-year-old Mexican national, near Brownsville, Texas on July 12. Varcenas-Aguilar had been previously arrested in June 2009 and charged with sexual assault of a child. He was convicted and sentenced to 12 years of confinement.
"These arrests demonstrate our Border Patrol agents' unwavering commitment to protecting our communities from dangerous individuals," stated Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez.
Both individuals are currently being processed and prosecuted accordingly.
