Philadelphia man pleads guilty to series of armed robberies

United States Attorney David Metcalf has announced that Tyree Hatch, also known as “Jamal Morris” and “Omar Reed,” aged 48 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Gail A. Weilheimer. The charges include three counts of robbery interfering with interstate commerce, three counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

The charges stem from incidents in November 2024 when Hatch committed armed robberies at three businesses in Northeast Philadelphia. According to court documents and Hatch's admission, on November 23, 2024, he entered a convenience store on Castor Avenue and robbed an employee at gunpoint. The next day, he carried out another robbery at a smoke shop on Cottman Avenue where an employee was shot during a struggle. On November 25, officers responded to another robbery on Castor Avenue where the suspect took cash and goods.

Philadelphia Police Department officers located the suspect’s vehicle outside his residence following the robberies. Hatch was arrested after exiting his home.

Hatch is due for sentencing on November 3 and could face life imprisonment with a mandatory minimum sentence of 24 years. The investigation involved the Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Kwambina Coker and Linwood C. Wright Jr. are prosecuting the case.
