Martin man receives nearly five-year sentence for illegal firearm possession

Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that a man from Martin, South Dakota, has been sentenced for illegal firearm possession. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler sentenced Aloysius Mousseau to four years and eight months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, along with a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Mousseau was indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2025 and pleaded guilty on April 22, 2025. In November 2024, Rapid City Police Department officers found Mousseau with a pistol. He provided false identification to law enforcement and had previous convictions punishable by over a year in prison, making firearm possession a felony offense.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while reducing violent crime through coordinated efforts from various law enforcement agencies.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives alongside the Rapid City Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted it. Mousseau was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
