A South Texas man has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison for receiving child pornography. This follows an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). David Guzman, aged 44, from San Antonio, received his sentence on July 17 from a federal judge.
U.S. Attorney Western District of Texas Justin R. Simmons commented on the case: “Seeking out and downloading child pornography, as Guzman did, eternally victimizes the innocent children forced to engage in despicable acts and encourages the production of child sexual abuse material.” He emphasized the priority of protecting children from predators in the district and expressed gratitude towards HSI San Antonio for their role in bringing Guzman to justice.
Craig Larrabee, ICE HSI San Antonio Special Agent in Charge, stated: “HSI is dedicated to safeguarding children from exploitation and ensuring justice is served.” He highlighted that the sentence reflects the seriousness of crimes involving child pornography and affirmed HSI's commitment to holding offenders accountable.
Court documents revealed that Guzman knowingly received child pornography using his laptop and cell phone through a peer-to-peer file-sharing program called uTorrent. His devices contained 107 image files and 268 video files depicting infants, toddlers, bondage, bestiality, and other sadistic acts.
A federal search warrant was executed at Guzman's residence on November 30, 2022. He was arrested on December 1, 2022, charged with a two-count indictment on December 14, 2022, and pled guilty on April 10, 2024. Besides imprisonment, U.S. District Judge Jason Pulliam sentenced him to lifetime supervised release and ordered him to pay $65,000 in restitution.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Bettina Richardson and Kirk Mangels prosecuted the case.
