The arrest of a Dominican national in Lawrence by ICE Boston has led to his conviction for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar, aged 49, pleaded guilty on June 16 at the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

"Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar repeatedly displayed a blatant disregard for U.S. immigration laws, and that resulted in his conviction for illegally reentering the country after deportation," stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston. "We will not stand idly by as criminals subvert our immigration laws and take refuge in our neighborhoods. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our New England communities."

Aybar-Aybar had been deported from the U.S. three times before, with the most recent deportation occurring on September 21, 2021. He subsequently reentered the country without inspection or permission from U.S. immigration officials.

At his sentencing scheduled for September 11, Aybar-Aybar faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Additionally, he is subject to deportation following any sentence imposed.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
