The United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced charges against Daniel Reed, a former Assistant Director of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries. Reed, 51, from Thompsontown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, faces charges including attempted production of child pornography, production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.
Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus stated that the allegations stem from a report by an adult female who claimed she was "groomed" into a sexual relationship with Reed between the ages of 14 and 17. Additionally, a "peep hole" and two-way mirror were reportedly found in a hallway closet at the Youth Ministries' facility.
A search warrant executed at Reed's residence led to the seizure of an electronic device containing internet searches related to hidden cameras. A text message allegedly encouraged two 16-year-old females to use the shower at the Youth Ministries’ facility. Authorities also discovered images on a hard drive showing nude minors in various bathrooms and bedrooms, believed to have been captured with hidden cameras.
The FBI's Philadelphia Field Office is working to identify potential victims and urges anyone with information to contact their State College Resident Agency.
The investigation was conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney K. Wesley Mishoe is handling the prosecution.
If convicted, Reed could face up to 70 years in prison along with supervised release, fines, and special assessments. The court will determine sentencing based on federal statutes and guidelines. It is important to note that criminal complaints are merely allegations and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
