Carbon County man sentenced for drug trafficking offenses

SCRANTON – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Jason Mika, 44, from Lansford, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 188 months in prison and four years of supervised release. This sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Karoline Mehalchick on July 17, 2025. Mika was charged with possessing with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine.

Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus stated that Mika had previously pled guilty to the charges. As part of his plea, he admitted to possessing over 400 grams of methamphetamine, other controlled substances, and a revolver. These items were discovered in his home during a search executed by the Nesquehoning Police Department and other investigators.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Office of the Attorney General of Pennsylvania, several local police departments, and the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by United States Attorney James Buchanan.

This case is linked to Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation utilizes resources from various Department of Justice task forces to protect communities from violent crime.
