Timothy T. Duax U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa
A Sioux City woman has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. Alesha Rasmussen, 34, received the sentence on July 18, 2025, following her guilty plea earlier this year.
Rasmussen admitted to selling approximately one ounce of methamphetamine on July 10, 2024, to an individual cooperating with law enforcement in Webster County, Iowa. She had previously been convicted of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine in November 2011 by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.
After serving time for her initial offense, Rasmussen's supervised release was revoked four times due to violations. The recent sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City. In addition to a 63-month prison term, Rasmussen will serve six years of supervised release afterward. There is no parole available in the federal system.
Currently held by the United States Marshal’s custody, Rasmussen awaits transfer to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
