A man from Waterloo, Iowa, has been sentenced to over 17 years in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material. Jeremy Moore, aged 39, was convicted after pleading guilty on January 31, 2025. He admitted to receiving the material between January 2023 and April 2024.
Moore's sentence follows a previous conviction in 2008 for interstate transportation of child pornography. The recent investigation revealed that Moore possessed a phone containing illicit content while residing at a halfway house. This phone was discovered by an investigator from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
In late 2024, while on supervised release for his prior offense, probation officers searched Moore's home and found another unmonitored phone with over 600 images of child sexual abuse material. Some images depicted victims under the age of twelve and involved sadistic or masochistic conduct.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Moore in Cedar Rapids to a total of 210 months’ imprisonment with an additional eighteen months for violating supervised release terms. Violations included possessing illegal materials, non-compliance with the sex offender registry, and failing to allow phone monitoring.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse since May 2006. The project involves federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt prosecuted the case with investigations conducted by several agencies including the United States Probation Offices for Northern District of Iowa and Eastern District of Missouri, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Moore remains in custody awaiting transfer to a federal prison.
