A Connecticut attorney has agreed to a Deferred Prosecution Agreement and surrendered his law license after admitting to making false statements at a federal detention center. The announcement was made by Sara Miron Bloom, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island.
Jonathan J. Einhorn, 75, from New Haven, is charged with willfully and knowingly making materially false statements within the jurisdiction of the executive branch of the U.S. Government. As part of the agreement, Einhorn admits there is sufficient evidence to convict him and agrees not to seek renewal of his law license for ten years.
On May 21, 2023, while visiting clients at Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center, Einhorn certified he would not bring contraband into the facility. However, according to an Agreed Statement of Facts, he was observed passing paperwork containing synthetic cannabinoids to detainees.
The case is overseen by Assistant United States Attorney Paul F. Daly Jr., with investigations conducted by Wyatt Detention Center's Professional Standards Unit and the FBI.
