A man from Carlisle, Kentucky, Ronald G. Miller, aged 43, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for illegal firearm possession. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell.
Miller was observed carrying a loaded handgun at the Blackberry Festival on July 2, 2024. Law enforcement knew him to be a convicted felon. During his arrest, Miller instructed his girlfriend to secure their home. A search of his residence uncovered additional firearms and ammunition.
Under federal law, Miller is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. After release, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.
The sentencing announcement came from Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; John Nokes from ATF's Louisville Field Office; Chief Gary Kinder of Carlisle Police Department; and Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. from Clark County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation involved collaboration between ATF, Carlisle Police Department, and Clark County Sheriff's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paco Villalobos represented the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
This prosecution is part of the Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Neighborhoods” Program (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime nationwide through a combination of law enforcement and community safety strategies in coordination with various officials in the Eastern District of Kentucky.
