An Ecuadorian national, Jose Tomas Lema Pugo, also known as Jose Luis Ledezma, has been sentenced in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. The sentencing took place in federal court, where U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin sentenced Lema Pugo to time served, which amounts to approximately six weeks in prison, followed by one year of supervised release. Following the completion of his sentence, he is subject to deportation.

Lema Pugo was previously deported from the United States to Ecuador in November 2013 but later returned without permission. He was arrested by immigration authorities on May 9, 2025, and subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2025. During the hearing, Lema Pugo pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Zacks from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
