A Dominican national residing in Chelsea has been indicted for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. Dawin Hereaux-Pena, 30, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.
Charging documents state that Hereaux-Pena was deported to the Dominican Republic on February 5, 2019. It is alleged that he unlawfully returned to the U.S. and was arrested in Chelsea on May 29, 2025.
The charge carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, the defendant may be subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred M. Wyshak from the Organized Crime & Gang Unit is handling prosecution.
"The details contained in the charging documents are allegations," it was stated. "The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
