WILLIAMSPORT - The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced charges against Carl Jones, 51, from Chester, PA. On July 24, 2025, Jones was charged with possession of child pornography and possessing contraband in prison.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Jones possessed a cell phone containing images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct while he was an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Lewisburg (FCI Lewisburg), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. This activity is said to have occurred between February 24, 2025, and April 9, 2025.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger.
Under federal law, the maximum penalty for this offense includes up to 20 years imprisonment and a fine. Additionally, a sentence must include supervised release ranging from five years to life following imprisonment. Sentencing follows a guilty finding by a judge who considers federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.
It is important to note that indictments are merely allegations; individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates resources at federal, state, and local levels to locate offenders and rescue victims. More information can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc.
