The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Andrew Dion, 57, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Lewisburg in Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 24, 2025. The charges include two counts of possessing contraband in prison and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Dion was found with a broken wooden broom handle approximately 13 inches long on June 2, 2025. It is alleged he used this to assault another inmate. Additionally, Dion was allegedly in possession of a bent brush with exposed metal prongs about eight inches long.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger is handling the prosecution.
Under federal law, these offenses carry a maximum penalty of ten years' imprisonment and a fine. A sentence would also involve supervised release after imprisonment. Sentences are determined by a judge considering federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.
It should be noted that indictments are merely allegations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
