Charleston man admits to escape charge after failing to return to reentry facility

Charleston, W.Va. – Ronald Edward Tinsley, 52, from Charleston, has admitted guilt to the charge of escape after not returning to a federal reentry facility.

Court documents and statements revealed that on March 19, 2025, Tinsley did not return from an approved work pass to Dismas Charities Inc., a Bureau of Prisons residential reentry facility in St. Albans. He was arrested by law enforcement officers on May 13, 2025, following the issuance of a warrant.

Tinsley's confinement at Dismas Charities followed his conviction for possession of a stolen firearm in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia on October 18, 2021.

The sentencing is set for October 27, 2025. Tinsley could face up to five years in prison.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced this development and praised the investigative efforts of the United States Marshals Service.

United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer D. Gordon is handling the prosecution.
