The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has highlighted findings from a recent report by the Council on Criminal Justice, which indicate a decrease in certain violent crimes across 30 U.S. cities during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Data from the report show that homicide rates dropped by 17% between January and June 2025. Other types of violent crime also saw declines: gun assaults fell by 21%, aggravated assault decreased by 10%, sexual assault was down by 10%, and carjacking incidents declined by 24%.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, our law enforcement is working at lightning speed to remove violent criminal illegal aliens from the U.S. Every single day we are arresting gang members, murderers, pedophiles, and violent predators.” She added, “70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens who have been convicted or charged with a crime. These arrests and deportations of criminal illegal aliens are having real impact on public safety.”
According to DHS, 70% of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests involve individuals who have criminal convictions or pending charges.
The agency encourages members of the public to report crimes or suspicious activity through its tip line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE or online at www.ice.gov.
