U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a Venezuelan national identified as a member of the Tren de Aragua gang during a traffic stop in Shelby Township, Michigan, on Wednesday. The arrest occurred after Marysville Station agents responded to assistance requested by local law enforcement who had stopped a vehicle with a fraudulent license plate in the metro Detroit area.

The vehicle contained three Venezuelan nationals. Record checks confirmed that all three individuals were present in the United States illegally. One of them was found to be affiliated with Tren de Aragua, which is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Further investigation revealed that the 30-year-old male associated with Tren de Aragua had multiple charges since 2023, including weapons violations, immigration violations, and violent robbery. He was also wanted on an active warrant from Denver, Colorado for Failure to Appear.

Detroit Sector Chief Patrol Agent John R. Morris stated: “The arrest of this Tren de Aragua gang member, who has a history of firearms and other criminal charges and was wanted on an active warrant out of Denver, Colorado for Failure to Appear, removes another dangerous criminal illegal alien from our country and enhances public safety. This marks the second arrest of a gang member from a foreign terrorist organization this month and underscores the relentless efforts of our agents and law enforcement partners. These cases highlight the critical value of interagency cooperation in removing these criminal threats from our communities."

The individual is now facing removal proceedings from the United States. U.S. Border Patrol encourages members of the community to report suspicious border activity by calling 1-800-537-3220.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) describes itself as America's largest law enforcement organization and unified border management agency, employing over 65,000 personnel across ground, air, and sea operations to protect national security and facilitate lawful travel and trade.
