Buffalo man sentenced to 20 years for distributing fentanyl linked to fatal overdoses

A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in distributing fentanyl and other drugs that led to both fatal and non-fatal overdoses. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Davon Mitchell, also known as Blu Boyy, age 35, was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute fentanyl, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan K. Glaberson, Mitchell began obtaining and selling fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in the Western District of New York starting in 2019. During a period between March 22 and May 12, 2022, he sold approximately 2.7 grams of fentanyl, 72 grams of methamphetamine, and 3 grams of crack cocaine to an undercover police officer.

On June 1, 2022, law enforcement arrested Mitchell at his residence on Janice Street after executing a search warrant. Officers recovered methamphetamine, $3,257 in cash, a cell phone, a revolver with ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell admitted responsibility for distributing fentanyl that caused the overdose deaths of two people from acute fentanyl intoxication. He also acknowledged selling fentanyl that resulted in three separate non-fatal overdoses.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations under Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan; the Buffalo Police Department led by Commissioner Alphonso Wright; the West Seneca Police Department headed by Chief Brian Cosgrove; and the New York State Police under Major Amie Feroleto.
