The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has expressed support for the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) recent reorganization and relocation plan. Stephanie Whitt, AFPI's Chief State Action and Engagement Officer, said that the move is beneficial for states and rural America. "By moving USDA decisionmakers closer to the farmers, ranchers, and communities they serve while maintaining critical functions of the department, federal resources will be better aligned with state and local priorities," she said.
The USDA's plan involves relocating much of its headquarters and National Capital Region staff to hubs in Raleigh, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Fort Collins, and Salt Lake City. This strategy aligns with Pillar X of AFPI’s America First Agenda: Fight Government Corruption by Draining the Swamp. The reorganization aims to achieve taxpayer savings, improve localized decision-making, enhance government accountability, and promote growth in regional economies while continuing to support U.S. farmers and ranchers.
