A Salvadoran national living in Lynn, Massachusetts, has been indicted for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. Emelio Neftaly Pineda, 46, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. Authorities arrested Pineda on June 12, 2025. He is expected to appear in federal court in Boston for arraignment at a later date.

According to court documents, Pineda was previously deported around July 20, 2016 following a felony conviction. If convicted of the current charge, he could face up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine that may reach $250,000. Upon completion of any imposed sentence, Pineda would again be subject to deportation. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Riley from the Human Trafficking & Civil Rights Unit is prosecuting the case.

“The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the announcement.
