A West Wareham man has been sentenced in federal court in Boston for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material. Joshua Roe, 38, received a five-year prison sentence and five years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy.
Roe pleaded guilty in January 2025 to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He has been held in federal custody since his arrest in September 2024.
Authorities searched Roe’s home on September 6, 2024, and recovered about 11 electronic devices belonging to him. A forensic examination at the scene found images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material on at least one device. Further analysis revealed such material on seven devices, including deleted files.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Michael Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations; and Chief Walter Correia of the Wareham Police Department announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus prosecuted the case.
The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative started by the Department of Justice in 2006 to protect children from exploitation and abuse by coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local agencies (https://www.justice.gov/psc).
