Dominican national indicted in Rhode Island for illegal reentry after prior deportation

A Dominican national previously deported from the United States after a federal heroin trafficking conviction has been indicted by a grand jury in Rhode Island for illegal reentry, according to Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Wandy Alcibiades Diaz-Diaz, 45, was deported in 2021 following his conviction and a 60-month prison sentence. In January 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) identified Diaz-Diaz through an automated fingerprint match after he was arrested on several state drug charges. He was later convicted in Rhode Island Superior Court on those charges and is currently serving a 66-month sentence at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI).

The federal case against Diaz-Diaz is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald R. Gendron. ICE conducted the investigation.

“A federal indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” stated the release.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative of the Department of Justice that aims to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime by coordinating resources from various programs including the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
