The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released new details about Nicol Alexandra Contreras-Suarez, a Colombian national who is accused of serious crimes including the rape of a minor and stalking in New York City. Contreras-Suarez, who entered the United States illegally in March 2023 through San Ysidro, California, was initially detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) but later released.

Contreras-Suarez faces charges of first-degree rape of a child under 17 and stalking. A preliminary criminal hearing took place this week in New York City, with the next court date before the New York Supreme Court scheduled for September 10, 2025.

Authorities say that after entering the country, Contreras-Suarez was arrested by the Medford Police Department in Massachusetts on charges including armed robbery, prostitution, and assault with a dangerous weapon. Local sanctuary policies led to his release following these arrests.

“This creep should’ve never been released into our country,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Thanks to the failed sanctuary policies and Biden’s open-border agenda, this serial criminal was freed to prey on innocent American children – but that ends now. ICE will not allow predators like Contreras-Suarez to terrorize American citizens.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) filed an immigration detainer with Manhattan Central Booking on February 13, 2025. Contreras-Suarez is currently held at Rikers Island pending his next court appearance.
