A Guatemalan national, Marvin Aguilar-Lopez, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland for re-entering the United States after being deported. Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker handed down a sentence of time served, which amounted to approximately four months. Aguilar-Lopez had pleaded guilty to the charge on May 29, 2025.
Court records show that police officers in Old Orchard Beach stopped Aguilar-Lopez in March 2025 due to a taillight violation. During the stop, he presented an invalid international license and told officers he was from Guatemala. Immigration checks revealed that he had been removed from the country in 2023 and did not possess documentation allowing him legal entry.
The case was investigated by U.S. Border Patrol.
According to the Department of Justice, this case is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative aims to use all available resources to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. The program brings together efforts from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
