Rebecca C. Lutzko United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio will participate in National Night Out events in Cleveland and other cities throughout the region. National Night Out is a yearly campaign that aims to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
According to organizers, millions of people across thousands of communities take part in National Night Out on the first Tuesday of August each year. The event was started in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance at the U.S. Department of Justice, and it is managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit group.
“National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes partnerships and camaraderie between law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer places to live. Millions take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities throughout the country on the first Tuesday of August in most areas of the country.”
The program brings together police officers, neighbors, and volunteers for activities such as block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel. Organizers say these gatherings send a message that residents are united in their efforts to keep their neighborhoods safe.
