53 members of Las Farc charged with drug and firearms offenses in Puerto Rico

Federal authorities have indicted 53 individuals believed to be members of the Las Farc Playita drug trafficking organization in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury on June 11, charges the defendants with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, possession and distribution of controlled substances, as well as firearms violations.

According to the indictment, starting in 2019, the organization allegedly distributed heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl, oxycodone and alprazolam in areas near public housing projects and other neighborhoods throughout San Juan.

Rebecca González Ramos, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) San Juan said: “Our message to these criminals is clear: We are reclaiming our streets from the grip of drug trafficking and the violence it brings. State and federal law enforcement agencies stand united in this mission. Our unwavering commitment is to restore peace to our communities and safeguard the true families of our island.”

The investigation was led by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations together with the Puerto Rico Police Bureau’s San Juan Strike Force. Additional support came from other federal partners and local officials.
