U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Anzalduas International Bridge in Mission, Texas, seized more than $1.1 million worth of fentanyl and cocaine during a single enforcement action on August 3.
According to CBP, officers referred a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 for secondary inspection at the bridge. A canine alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, prompting a nonintrusive inspection. Officers found a white powdery substance hidden inside stationary bike rollers. The search resulted in the discovery of 24 packages: 14 containing approximately 15.28 kilograms (33.68 pounds) of alleged fentanyl and 10 containing about 11.56 kilograms (25.48 pounds) of alleged cocaine.
The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is $1,127,200.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez for the Hidalgo Port of Entry stated, “This seizure showcases our officers’ relentless efforts to secure the border and prevent dangerous drugs from reaching our communities.”
CBP seized both the vehicle and narcotics involved in this case. Special agents from Homeland Security Investigations have started a criminal investigation into the incident.
CBP is recognized as America's largest law enforcement organization and manages unified border operations across land, air, and sea domains with over 65,000 personnel facilitating lawful travel and trade while working to ensure national security through various means including intelligence and collaboration.
