Agents who are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) are maintaining their commitment to the real estate profession, even as housing affordability remains a challenge. According to NAR's 2025 Member Profile, released August 6, 2025, the typical member reported 12 years of experience, an increase from 10 years in the previous report. Seventy-four percent of surveyed agents expressed strong confidence that they would remain active in the industry for at least two more years.

"The real estate market will always have a consistent flow of new entrepreneurs," said Jessica Lautz, NAR Deputy Chief Economist. "Despite the headwinds in the current market, the majority of agents who are REALTORS plan on staying in real estate as active professionals."

The annual profile provides data on business activity, income, firm affiliation, technology use and demographics among NAR members based on trends and transactions from 2024. The report found that agents completed a median of 10 transactions in 2024, unchanged from 2023. Median sales volume per agent also remained steady at $2.5 million.

Housing affordability was cited by 25% of members as the most significant obstacle for homebuyers—surpassing other concerns such as inventory and property availability.

NAR’s survey indicated that median gross income for REALTORS rose to $58,100 in 2024 from $55,800 in 2023. Fifty-five percent of respondents said they were affiliated with an independent company and eighty-seven percent reported being independent contractors at their firms.

The findings are based on responses from nearly five thousand NAR members across the United States collected in March 2025.
