A federal grand jury has indicted Tyrie Rashad Dunn, also known as “Chaos,” age 37, of Lodi, New Jersey, for maliciously damaging a building by fire or explosive material and for the use of explosive material in the commission of a felony. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus.
According to prosecutors, Dunn allegedly carried and used two Molotov cocktails on January 17, 2025, to set fire to a rental property in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The incident took place during the early morning hours while five tenants were inside asleep. Several victims were forced to jump from a second-story window to escape the blaze and sustained injuries as a result. Authorities state that Dunn fled the scene and traveled to New Jersey. He was apprehended ten days later after being involved in a car chase and an assault on law enforcement officers. Separate criminal charges related to that incident are pending in the District of New Jersey.
The investigation involved the Pottsville Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is prosecuting the case.
This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), which aims to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime through coordinated efforts among various federal task forces.
If convicted on these charges under federal law, Dunn could face up to 30 years in prison as well as supervised release and financial penalties. Sentencing would be determined by a judge following federal statutes and guidelines.
Authorities remind that indictments are only allegations: “All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.”
