Jauan Rashun Porter, a 29-year-old resident of Rome, Georgia, was arrested and detained on federal charges for allegedly making threats against former President Donald Trump. According to authorities, the arrest follows an incident on July 26, 2025, in which Porter reportedly joined a TikTok livestream about President Trump and posted threatening comments.
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg commented on the case: “The allegations against Porter are serious and required a swift, decisive, and collaborative response,” said Hertzberg. “We do not tolerate threats against public officials or law enforcement officers, and Porter will now face the consequences of his actions.”
Robert Donovan, Deputy Special Agent in Charge at the Atlanta Field Office of the United States Secret Service, also addressed the matter: “The United States Secret Service takes threats against a protectee very seriously. We will investigate every threat, and if warranted, prosecute those who make threats to the fullest extent of the law.”
Court documents state that during the livestream titled “Alligator Alcatraz,” Porter allegedly wrote: “So there’s only one way to make America great and that is putting a bullet in between Trump’s eyes.” He then made further statements such as:
“I’m gonna kill Donald Trump. I’m gonna put a 7.62 bullet inside his forehead.”
“I’m gonna watch him bleed out and I’m gonna watch him die . . . I’m gonna do that.”
When questioned by the host about potential visits from federal agents, Porter allegedly responded: “I’m gonna kill them too.”
Investigators from the Secret Service worked with Floyd County police officers and State of Georgia probation officers to search Porter’s apartment. They found two pipes, pistol ammunition, and Tannerite (an explosive). Authorities noted that Porter has prior convictions including terroristic threats, influencing a witness, mutiny in a penal institution, drug possession, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and domestic violence. He is currently on probation.
Porter was charged by criminal complaint on August 7 with making threats against the President. U.S. Magistrate Judge Walter E. Johnson ordered him detained pending a detention hearing set for August 12 at 2:30 p.m.
Officials reminded members of the public that these are only charges at this stage; Porter is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt at trial.
The investigation is being led by the United States Secret Service with assistance from local agencies including Floyd County Police Department and District Attorney’s Office as well as Georgia Department of Community Supervision.
Assistant United States Attorney Brian Michael Pearce is prosecuting this case.
