South Jordan man sentenced to over 19 years for possession of child pornography

Daniel David Egli, a 51-year-old resident of South Jordan, Utah, was sentenced to more than 19 years in federal prison following his conviction for possession of child pornography. The sentence includes a 210-month term and an additional two-year term for violating supervised release conditions related to a previous child exploitation case.

Senior U.S. District Court Judge Tena Campbell also ordered that Egli be placed on lifetime supervised release after completing his prison sentence.

Court documents and trial evidence showed that in spring 2021, while under federal supervision, Egli violated his release conditions by possessing unauthorized electronic devices. During a routine check by his probation officer, law enforcement seized an unauthorized laptop and smartphone along with other electronic devices. Investigators found that Egli had accessed and possessed nearly 500 images of child sexual abuse material, leading to the charges brought against him in 2022. Egli has been involved in child exploitation crimes for two decades and has repeatedly returned to incarceration after violating terms of supervised release.

“Egli is a repeat offender of child exploitation, and he has shown a complete lack of remorse and rehabilitation in his continued behavior,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti of the District of Utah. “Community safety is a priority of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and our law enforcement partners. Our community and the children in it are safer with Egli behind bars.”

The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office conducted the investigation into this case.

The prosecution was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.

This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
