U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained Mario Guzman-Vasquez, a Guatemalan national, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Local law enforcement identified Guzman-Vasquez as the main suspect in the August 3, 2025 crash that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old pedestrian. Authorities allege that he struck the victim with his vehicle and left the scene.

Upon learning of Guzman-Vasquez’s immigration status, local police notified ICE, which took him into custody on August 4. ICE officials stated that Guzman-Vasquez had entered the United States without legal authorization on November 6, 2016.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin commented on the case: “Mario Guzman-Vasquez had no right to be in this country in the first place. Now, a family has lost a loved one. Guzman-Vasque callously fled the scene of a deadly crash, leaving the victim he killed,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Sadly, the Biden Administration released this criminal illegal alien into American communities. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, DHS is restoring law and order and putting America first by removing illegal aliens from American communities.”

Federal officials noted that prosecutorial discretion was used during the Biden administration to dismiss Guzman-Vasquez’s immigration case, allowing him to remain in the country indefinitely.
