U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon visited Little Rock, Arkansas as part of her Returning Education to the States Tour. During her visit, Secretary McMahon was joined by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and U.S. Senator Tom Cotton for a tour of Don R. Roberts Elementary School, followed by a literacy roundtable discussion with local leaders. The visit also included a stop at Saline County Career & Technical Campus to observe programs aimed at preparing high school students for the workforce.
“It was an honor to join Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and education leaders in Arkansas to learn more about efforts to bolster literacy outcomes and best practices in their workforce development programs,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. “Arkansas is an excellent example of what it looks like to prioritize students through school choice and programs that prepare students for in-demand careers.”
“President Trump and Secretary McMahon have worked hard to return education to the states because they know that decisions about education should be made closest to the students,” said Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “That starts with empowering parents to make whatever decision is best for their children's education, and we are grateful to have a strong partner in President Trump and Secretary McMahon who are committed to decentralize power out of Washington, let states innovate on education policy and put students first. I am excited to show Secretary McMahon all we have done to improve student literacy, implement universal school choice, reward our state’s outstanding educators with higher pay, and deliver on our promise to set Arkansas’ students up for success.”
The visit highlighted local initiatives such as expanded school choice options and career-focused training designed to help students meet current job market demands.
