Donald J. Trump, former President of the United States and current presidential candidate, announced a series of judicial nominations on his Truth Social account on August 12, 2025. The posts included the nomination of Robert Chamberlin to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi and Edmund LaCour and Harold “Hal” Mooty to judgeships in the Northern District of Alabama.
In a post made at 4:39 PM EST, Trump stated, "It is my honor to nominate Robert Chamberlin to serve as Judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. Throughout his time as Justice on the Mississippi Supreme Court, State Trial Court" (August 12, 2025).
Minutes later, Trump announced another nomination: "I am pleased to nominate Edmund LaCour as Judge for the Northern District of Alabama. As the Solicitor General, Edmund has done a terrific job representing the Great State of Alabama, especially in cases before the United States" (August 12, 2025).
Shortly after that announcement, Trump posted about a third nominee: "It is my honor to nominate Harold “Hal” Mooty as Judge for the Northern District of Alabama. Hal is one of the top Commercial Litigators in Alabama, a State that I love, and won BIG three times, in 2016, 2020, and 2024. Hal" (August 12, 2025).
Robert Chamberlin currently serves as a Justice on the Mississippi Supreme Court and has prior experience at both state trial court levels. Edmund LaCour holds the position of Solicitor General for Alabama and has represented his state in high-profile federal cases. Harold “Hal” Mooty is recognized within legal circles as an accomplished commercial litigator based in Alabama.
The process for appointing federal judges requires nominees to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate following their selection by the President.
