The United States and Pakistan conducted a new round of their Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad on August 12, 2025. The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to fighting terrorism in all its forms.
Special Secretary for the United Nations Nabeel Munir and U.S. Department of State Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory D. LoGerfo led the discussions. Delegations from both sides highlighted the need to develop effective strategies against terrorist groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), ISIS-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The United States recognized Pakistan’s efforts in controlling terrorist organizations that threaten regional and global security. It also offered condolences for civilian and law enforcement casualties resulting from attacks, including those on the Jaffar Express train and a school bus in Khuzdar.
Participants stressed the importance of improving institutional frameworks and building capabilities to address security challenges, including countering terrorists’ use of new technologies.
Both nations agreed to continue working together at multilateral forums like the United Nations to support long-term solutions for counterterrorism.
They reiterated that ongoing structured engagement is essential for countering terrorism and supporting peace and stability.
